Get Thee to See Peonies …

Posted on May 2, 2012

Peonies: intoxicatingly perfumed poufs of soft petals, and perfect in pink, white and purple.  We’re knee deep in peony season here in the Bluegrass, and what better place to witness the burst of hundreds, maybe thousands of  blooms than at the gardens on the grounds at Ashland, the now historic home Henry Clay.  The peony beds, established in 1986,  hold a collection of Saunders hybrid peonies donated in memory of longtime Garden Club of Lexington member Alice McIlvain Prewitt.

You can walk the grounds at Ashland free of charge, but this Sunday, May 6 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m., there will be a special tour of gardens in the Ashland neighborhood, with tickets for sale at $10  near the peony beds.; a select group of potted peonies from Kelly Nursery will be offered for sale at $25 and up.
